GlObAlOrIa

This class has been . . . . . . ummmm about the most nerve racking, hard - working, and most fun class I've ever taken ( other than kindergarten). Every single project we've done has been filled with the enjoyment of accomplishing something new. Even in times where we had to come after school to hurry and finish because we had to present tghe next day. In the beginning noone knew what we were getting ourselves in to. It was really strange for the students like me who didn't choose to take this class, but we were thrown into it when they made our schedules.
The most important things we made were our blogs, wiki, and Chez's blog. They all determined what we did and how we did it. Chez has been a great teacher for this class even though at times she ws just as confused as us. We also had the Globaloria people. They were a lot of help when we needed them, and they always helped us learn how to correct our mistakes.
Most people would say that this class was a pushover class taken for seniors so they have an easy road to graduation. I know this because before this crazy ride started, that's what I said. looking back now, I can see that we did just as much work as any other class maybe even more. this class has given us all a set of skills that some people don't have untill they get out of college with a degree in video game design. I see all these comercials on t.v. saying they need video game designers, and I just laugh because they don't need to go to college to get that. All they need to do is spend a couple weeks in Globaloria class with Chez!!!
This class has been great. I would like to thank Chez and all the people at Globaloria for making this class possible. To my fellow Globalorians good luck. I hope you all have everything you want in life. I hope you've learned as much from this class as I have.

Games

Today's assignment was to go to two peoples game pages and look at them, then blog on them. I visited jp's game and destiny's game. JP's game completlely blew me away because he has action that should be in a professional game. His character moved and hit like a real game too. Destiny's game was good. It had a good moral to the game . It was about drop out rates in America and had multiple choice questions. JP just needs to finish his game and it will be perfecto! Des needs to put more action into her game. It's a bit boring. I will take the idea of moving characters back to my page, because it makes the game excited.JP's game doesn't really have an educational background, but it being so fun picks up for lost reason. Des's game has an educational background and it shows in the questions. Overall the games were pretty good and I can't wait to see what else the games will have to offer.

Group Chat

Group chatting was fun. i didn't like the subject of the chat , but chating was fun. It lets a group of people chat together at the same time. It would really be helpful with a group of people doing the same project so they could help each other out. I had a good time chating with megan and jeremy.

West Virginia

Technology has helped and hindered us in different ways. Thanks to technology we now are able to be connected to each other through phones, e mail, and the internet. Also, It has helped save lives through the updating of medical technology. It has hindered us however because it has caused the production of weapons of mass destruction. Satelites let other countries spy on us, but we do the same to them. Technology in cars has caused a lot of polution in the air. West Virginia is precieved as a hick town. People say that they didn't think we were even a state. Others say that we run around with no shoes because we're all poor and only depend on coal. I've even heard people say we were incest. When it comes down to it we're none of these things. We have many famous people from basketball players to politicans coming out of WV. We don't belive that coal is the only source of cash, and incest is just as nasty to us as it is to anyone else. West Virginia is a beautiful place and a one of a kind place to live. I honestly couldn't imagine living anywhere other than West Virginia wild and wonderful.

Animation

Animating on flash is pretty hard. Trying to get the objects to move is hard too. I don't understand what keyframes are for, and I don't know how to make one page go to another. Although it's very hard, it's also fun because you get different ways to draw with different buttons. It's a lot more up to date compared to paint. Making buttons was the first thing I learned to do, and now i'm the master of button making!!

Flash Buttons

Creating the flash buttons was basically simple. The toutrials were a little helpful. We are finishing up on our title page for our game. We have decided to call the game "Poverty : Living with this crisis" . We have to create many buttons so hopefully it gets easier. Everyday flash gets a little easier, so this game project should be a fun assignment.

Gilgamesh and the Iliad

The heros from Gilgamesh and the Iliad are a lot like characters of today. Most game characters today are based on ancient times and immortal beings. To be completely honest, they really are good games. Gilgamesh really remineded me of a game called "God of War". The charcater is fueled by anger after the death of his wife and child. He fights against the Gods of Olympus in search of revenge. The chaacters from Gilgamesh and the Iliad fuel many of todays games in many ways.

Canterbury Tales

Chaucer chose the characters tthat he did because he wanted his characters to be great people who could influence others to do the great things they've done. Characters like the knight or the monk were not only great heros, but they were also gentle men who were christian men. It's not a common thing to have a great warrior who is not a mindless chaotic blood thirsty maniac. Hia characters are the people that normal people dream to be, but never reach that level of perfectness.
These characters were important to society because in the stories the were great warriors, nobel men, wealthy, or anything that the perfect person could be like. They did what they loved to do, and they influenced the people around them to do the same. They influenced the people reading to be excited about life and do what you love to do, and be who you want to be. Everyone needs a hero and that's what some of theses were. I believe that this depiction of time and people was a little off. I think the characters are too perfect for real life. Some though were just good people.
The development of characters in a game is very important. You want your character's looks and personality to match the game's. The charqcters in games are tipically over rated for real life, so in my game I'm going to make my character as real as possible. That way, my game will be as real as possible.Characters are important in the gaming world. Without characters you have no game . charcters whether small or large make up the different types of games. With heros, villians, competitors, enemies, and opponents, these are all made up of different characters.

Flash

Flash is fun, but also complicated. Learning how to use flash and all the codes teach us how to put our games together. I kind of got behind because I wasn't here one day, so I don't know as much as I should. The mini game project has been the hardest yet, but it's only the beginning. The hardest part about it was getting the characters to move. Once we got them to move though, how to move them faster or slower was the easy part. I hope to learn more about intertwining characters with other characters and designing all my characters to look and act like I want them too.

Beowulf

What has Beowulf left his people? When he first came to the land the people were in terror. The were horrified by the monster Grendel and his mother. They had no structure, and only knew how to get drunk and try to fight. Once Beowulf arrived, he came in with a courage thet the people had never seen before. His leadership and courage sparked something on the inside or the people. Once he had killed the beast, beowulf then was made King of the land. Yearss went by and the people felt safe and supported. He gave them gifts of gold and land won in wars. he was a great knig. in the end when Beowulf died, he left them stability with the gold found in the cave. In all, beowulf gave his people courage, strength, structure, money, land, stability after his death, and one of the greatest kings ever known. Long Live Beowulf!

Beowulf

The purpose of the story was to spread the graet stories of Beowulf, and to let people know who to call for when you have a monster that needs to be destroyed. The story was probably told to men in halls who were drunk. It was probably exagerated to make the stories more entertaining for them, and to make the teller look like an interesting person. The audience of my game will most likely be young kids and teens. Therefore, I will design my characters, levels, and difficulty to a level that they will understand. I won't use vulgar words or death in my game. It will be more of a pg13 game, but everyone is qualified to play it. My game will be fun but appropriate for the younger kids playing.

Beowulf

To me, Beowulf meets the requirements of a hero because he goes from town to town taking out the monsters that bring death upon that town. His stories are known from country to country, and he is the one the people rely on to destroy these monsters. They know that he fears no man nor monster. Beowulf is the fearless warrior that comes to save the day, eventhough he does it for a price. Beowulf would not make a good character for an educational game because he does his job for a price. A real hero should do for his town or other towns because he feels it is his duty to protect the public. Also, his killing tactics are a bit vulgar. So, if a little kid plays a game with a character like Beowulf, I feel like it would lead them to be violent, eventhough it's just a game. The qualities of a good hero in a game would be courage, respectful, kind, strong, and an obsession to do the right thing only for the glory of seeing the public safe and happy.

Quick Write

This is the story of the great Spratan warrior Kratos. Used as a killing machine and slave to the Gods of Mount Olympus, Kratos has sought out for revenge against the Gods for the death of his wife and daughter. He has for long bowed to the Gods in order to take his rightful place as the God of War, but he finds that everything they have ever told him is a lie. As he motivates off the evil and hurt from inside due to the death of his daughter and wife, Kratos fights his way to the top of mount Olympus in search of the god Zeus. As he searches for Zeus, Kratos realizes that the death of his family is due to his own stupidity, but shows the courage to bring the same pain upon the Gods.

Playing To Learn

We played some games that were created by professionals. One game i really liked was Darfur Is Dying. It was a game about a colony of people who have to fight to get the assential things in life. The object of the game was to find the water by running and looking around with your character. When the militia was near you had to hide or they would capture you and throw you in a containment camp. There really was no educational point to the game, but the entertainment of the game made up for it. on a scale of 1 to 10 i would give it a 7 because it was the type of ggame people my age are interested in. We also played games created by other globalorians. My favorite game was Zeit Geist. it was a type of military game in which you had to answer questions about either Ancient greece or Eqypt. Then, you had to make it through each level with your character. After each level, you had to answer more questions, and if you got them wrong you had to go back and start from the beginning. the graphics weren't as good as the professionally made one, but the entertainment was just as good.

Internet Safety

Internet safety is a very important thing. There are many strange and unusual people that try to find young people on the internet. They try to make yupng people believe that they are young to. In all honesty, they really are sick people trying to satisfy their sick minds by kidnapping young people. It is very important that you keep your imformation to a minimum on places like myspace and facebook. Don't post your full name, phone number, or address on your profile. Don't talk to people you don't know, and if they try to meet up with you don't do it unless you know for sure who they are! It is a proven fact that over 50% of people trying to meet up with other people via internet are registered sex offenders. A couple tips on being safe include: 1. Keep your profiles private. 2. Pay attention to the email or display names of the people harassing you. 3. Don't give your address. 4. Get help from authorities if the person won't leave you alone. Remember cyberspace is a big place. With this big place come risks of talking to someone thst's a little to weird for normal people.

My First Blog

Hey my name is Rusty Harmon. I'm a senior at RHS. When i heard this class would be pencilless and paperless, I was in awe. I don't think I've ever in my life been excited for a class like this one. It's fun and i'm excited to create a video game. ChezGlobaloria is the future of English 12!
